Experience
After serving in the United States Marine Corps for three years Shawn began his career with the Texas Department of Public Safety. During the first eight years Shawn’s assignment was with the Highway Patrol Service. The next 13 years were dedicated to the License & Weight Service that is tasked with commercial vehicle enforcement. His new duties included enforcement of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Hazardous Materials Regulations, state laws affecting weight, size and registration, and investigating accidents involving commercial motor vehicle. During his time in what is now the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Service, Shawn competed multiple times in the commercial vehicle inspector’s competition known as Challenge. Challenge involves a Level 1 equipment inspection/ driver’s interview, cargo tank & non-bulk hazardous materials inspection, written examination and personal interview. The competition occurs initially at the regional level where first place advances to state. The overall champion at state advances to the national competition and represents the State of Texas. Shawn retired from the Department after serving almost 21 years. Upon retirement he assumed the position of Safety Coordinator with Basic Energy Services for 18 months before relocating to San Antonio, Texas.
